A self fertile fig produces large crops of sweet, juicy fruits with a deep red flesh under the brown skins. With the attractive lobed foliage, it makes a dramatic feature when fan trained against a sunny wall or grown in a container on the patio. Fruits can take approximately one year to develop, they appear in spring and ripen from August to September. A second crop often develops in late summer and if protected, these fruits will ripen during the following summer. Grow in a sheltered, sunny position using moisture retentive, fertile, well drained soil that is slightly alkaline. Incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the planting hole. When growing in containers they should be re-potted every two years. Water regularly, particularly during hot dry periods.
